The VSO 2024 Examination is right around the corner. On the other hand, knowing this fact you are working hard to ace the exam. But without knowing the battlefield entirely, you cannot prepare well! So let us give you a brief info about the upcoming Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2024 exams!
VSO (Vidyasagar Science Olympiad) Scheme is a joint initiative by the School Education Department, the Government of West Bengal, and JBNSTS. The VSO is conducted by Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search in West Bengal to identify hidden talents. VSO exam focuses on science subjects such as Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry of the materials), Life Science (Biology of living beings) or Mathematical science. Particularly, the examination’s prime objective is to nurture students of class IX to perform brilliantly in national and international Olympiads.
VSO (Vidyasagar Science Olympiad) 2024 Core Objectives
The tri-layered examination design of VSO, which assesses pupils at the pre-Madhyamik level, is one of its main goals. This is especially for better identifying, assisting, and raising exceptional students early on. Additionally, science seminars and workshops are held to motivate young pupils and provide them with an opportunity to interact with prominent scientists and technologists.
Eligibility criteria for VSO (Vidyasagar Science Olympiad)
School Category – Students of the following categories of the school may participate
All government schools are under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
Every Non – Government recognized Aided and Sponsored Schools
All D. A. getting schools under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
Eligibility criteria for students
Top 5 students in a school’s class IX, as determined by H.M./A.H.M./T.I.C. based on their performance in the class VIII annual examination.
Syllabus of VSO 2024 Examination
For students in Class IX: The test will be based on the West Bengal State Board’s Class VIII Science and Mathematics syllabus. For students in Class X: The test will be based on the West Bengal State Board’s Class IX Science and Mathematics syllabus.

VSO (Vidyasagar Science Olympiad) Examination 2024
First layer Examination: Intra-Unit Competition
Students in classes X and IX will take two different exams on the same day, in the same style. This examination will be given to the schools that make up a unit. Larger municipalities can be assigned many centres. (Approximately 348 units total: 341 municipalities and blocks plus 7 municipal corporations). Every district in West Bengal, every unit, would be covered.

MCQ: 100 No.s(Negative marking of ¼ marks for each wrong answer).
Result of the First Layer:
A book reward of Rs. 1000/-will be given to the top three students in each unit, provided they have scored at least 40% of the possible points in the Layer 1 test. The top 10% of students in each unit, provided they received at least 30% of the possible points in the Layer 1 exam, will advance to the second level and get participation certificates as recognition.
Second layer Examination: Intra-District Competition
Students in classes X and IX will take two different exams on the same day, in the same style. The top 10% of eligible pupils from each district’s first level will take this test.

Result of the Second Layer:
The top 10 applicants from each district would receive a book reward of Rs. 2000/-as long as they received 40% of the possible points in the Layer 2 exam. The top 20% of students from each district will be eligible for third level, provided they have scored 40% of the total points in the Layer 2 exam.
Third layer Examination: Intra-State Competition
Students in classes X and IX will take two different exams on the same day, in the same style. The top 20% of eligible students from each district in our state’s second level will take this test.

Short answer and objective type(No negative marking)
Result of the Second Layer:
Finally, the top hundred (100) students from all over West Bengal will be selected as scholarship awardees. They will be awarded a scholarship of Rs. 1000/- per month during Class IX and X an annual book grant of Rs. 2500/- for two years and a certificate.
Each of the selected students (100) will get the opportunity to participate in science workshops and there will be training sessions for individual subject-wise National Olympiad Examination.
