ICSE 2024 English: English I

Essay

All the points relevant to the topic must be covered. The essay should be divided into paragraphs. Show a logical approach and maintain consistency.
The style should be simple and lucid. The usage of appropriate words and idioms is desirable. Quotations may be used only if they are apt. Strictly avoid the use of non-English words and contractions.
Extra credit goes to the candidate who has depth of knowledge and can express the ideas properly.

Letter

The correct format is mandatory. The content must be about a matter that is relevant to the topic. The content must be divided into paragraphs.
The style of writing must be suited to the topic. For a formal letter, the language must be clear and logical. In the case of an Informal letter, the language should be cordial.

Notice & E-mail

Read the question very carefully and then start writing. The ‘Title’ in the Notice must be creative and of 2 to 3 words.
The e-mail address must be a plausible one. The opening and closing sentences must be appropriate to the e-mail topic. Note that in Notice & E-mail, there should be no mistakes in the format.

Comprehension

For Vocabulary-based questions, the form and tense of the answer must be the same as the word in the passage.
The answers should be brief and to the point and in one’s own language as far as possible.

Precis writing

A fair draft should be given in a grid. The word limit should not be exceeded even by one word.

ICSE 2024 English: ENGLISH-II

Read the text thoroughly. Do not depend on ready-made notes or answers. Avoid reading paraphrases for the Drama.
Write to the point answers.
Separate parts of a question are to be answered in separate paragraphs.
Keywords from the text are always awarded.
Refrain from using flowery vocabulary.
Do not repeat ideas even if the questions are related Rephrase your answers.
Bring out the symbolic meaning along with the literal meaning if the question demands.
If you have been asked whether or not you agree with a given statement, make sure you write “yes” or “no”. Then elaborate further as the question demands.
Refer to or quote extensively from the text to score better.
Don’t add unnecessary details as it will not fetch any marks but the time spent doing so will result in an incomplete answer script.
Underline keywords while writing answers.
Avoid linguistic errors.
