What is the IOQM 2024 Examination?

The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is a three-hour exam for students in classes from 8 to 12. The MTA or Mathematics Teachers’ Association (India) administers the test. MTA has been in charge of organising the PRMO (Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad) in collaboration with HBCSE. Furthermore, it is the first phase in the sequential selection process for participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). The exam is OMR-based and has no negative marking.

Objectives of IOQM 2024

Bringing secondary and upper-secondary students from all around the world together for a friendly competition at the highest level is the goal of the International Olympiad movement. Indian students have participated in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) since 1989 and have taken home multiple medals.

Eligibility for the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics Exam

IOQM 2024: Exam Pattern

First stage exam: Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM)

Duration: 3 hours
Total marks: 100
The answer to each question is an integer in the range 00-99. No negative marking. OMR-based exam.
Composition of the paper: 10 questions of 2 marks each; 10 questions of 3 marks each; 10 questions of 5 marks each.

Second stage exam: Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO)

Duration: 3 hours
Number of questions: 06
Each question requires writing detailed proof.

Third stage exam: Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO)

Duration: 4.5 hours
Number of questions: 06
